Day 3

Wednesday was not such a sunny day as Tuesday - but still pleasant. We decided to walk to Boston Common and then search for the Cheers bar. But first - breakfast.

We didn't manage to find precisely what we were looking for en route and ended up in a fairly grotty mall with food court offerings.

After we had eaten, we walked on through Boson Common and took some pics - Maurice was particularly taken with the squirrels. We had a quick detour at the end of the Common looking for Cheers - which we didn't spot initially but after a quick walk around the block - we found it! had a look at the original bar - very small and not at all like the show's set - but the stairs down and the Indian statue did look the same. We had a drink upstairs in the 'set' bar which was a bit more like the one on the show - Maurice sat on Frasier's stool! Many pics were taken and the inevitabel fridge magnet bought.

We then walked up Charles Street and found ourselves at a station which took us on the red 'T' so we hopped on a train to Harvard Square.

We found ourselves bang in the centre of Harvard. We impulsively decided to take a walking tour with a costumed tour guide called 'Ann Whitely' who was really an actress called Olivia. This proved a very interesting way to see Harvard. Pics aplenty and lots of history. Then we had some lunch - a Chinese restaurant which was actually surprisingly good.

We hopped on the train back to State St station which was just a stone's throw from our hotel. During Maurice's snooze, I popped out to get the Whale Watch tickets for the next day - but the booth was closed. However, I did locate another larger 7 Eleven with beer! and another pub just around the corner from the hotel to investigate later on.

After the snooze - we ventured to the Granary Tavern - the pub I had spotted, but it was heaving with after work types. We just had one there and then went back to Quincy Market where we sat outside at the bar at the end - and that was very pleasant. After that we walked over to the Hard Rock Cafe - which was pretty dead and not particularly good. We tried another couple of places on the way back - one we couldn't get into without ID so that was that. Another hot dog from a vendor at the corner this time. Then bed.
